MacBook: Apple still shows the way with laptops
Friday, 10 August 2007 12:12

Apple MacBookApple is on fire right now. Well, not literally. But their Macintoshes are being ripped out of stores. Considering Apple's dominance before the dark 90's and the Redmond monopoly, they're not more popular than ever right now, but they are very popular nevertheless. Even stores here in Finland that would only sell Windows desktop PC's and laptops have MacBooks , iMacs and Mac Minis on their shelves now. This means more choice for consumers.

Personally my choice of desktop has always been either Linux or FreeBSD. However, a laptop computer has special requirements and while Linux fulfills the software's part, the problem with laptops in general is that they're ugly. Really ugly. And that they might not return from standby mode due to ACPI-related bugs (affecting both Linux and Windows). And that they run hot enough to set your lap on fire. And that the battery in a general PC laptop lasts less than 1 hour.

My choice of laptop has always been Apple. In this article I will tell my 5 reasons for this.

Siemens C450 IP: VoIP done right

However, using an outdated SSH-server software or allowing logging in as root with a weak password will most certainly get your system compromised. I very much doubt you want to give an attacker a full control over your system. Fortunately securing your SSH is very easy, yet effective. I will split every step into a security "level". You can reach from the absolute minimum up to a very secure level.
